The LLB has proposed the construction of a new middle-size SANS instrument at the ILL in the framework of the major upgrade program Endurance2. The CRG will be operated by LLB and it is planned that 50% of the beam time will be available through 2FDN proposal calls. The start of installation of the SAM CRG is scheduled for 2022.
Short description : SAM will be a SANS instrument running with a standard monochromatic mode for the studies of samples with fluctuations of typical sizes varying from the nanometer scale to few hundred nanometer. A polarized beam option and high magnetic fields (up to 10 T at the sample position) will facilitate studies of magnetism. A Modulation of Intensity Emerging with Zero Effort (MIEZE) option will either yield (i) the sample’s intrinsic dynamics by a measurement of the intermediate scattering function S(q,τ) with a few 10ns time-resolution, or (ii) a time-dependent dynamics stimulated by periodic constraints with characteristic frequencies varying from 0 to several MHz.
