The SANS-LLB small-angle neutron scattering instrument is now open to users at PSI.
Originally designed and operated at the LLB on the Orphée reactor, SANS-LLB has supported a broad scientific community for many years, particularly in soft matter, polymer science, colloids and complex fluids. Over its lifetime, the instrument has undergone several upgrades to enhance its capabilities.
Following the shutdown of the Orphée reactor, SANS-LLB was transferred to PSI through a close collaboration between the technical teams of LLB and PSI. Its integration into the PSI infrastructure, and in particular its coupling to the PSI neutron guide system, has resulted in a significant improvement in performance, notably in terms of flux at the sample and beam quality.
More information here and on the PSI website.
Short description : SANS-LLB is a SANS instrument covering a wide Q-range, typically from Q≃10-3 et 0.5 Å -1. It operates with a standard monochromatic mode for the studies of samples with fluctuations of typical sizes varying from the nanometer scale to few hundred nanometer. SANS-LLB is adapted for high magnetic fields (10T). Moreover, X-Y sizable slits in the collimator allow for GISANS measurements of surfaces and interfaces. The two X-Y detectors (rear and front detectors) allow for a large coverage scattering angle in a single measurement. It offers a broad range of sample environments, supporting most experimental needs of the scientific community.
